I’m so excited to share this Month’s Curlfriend with you.
This Month we are featuring the Bay Area’s own Charlie on the Spot. If you haven’t heard of her before you’re going to want to know more about her after today. I had the pleasure of sitting down with her to learn more about the woman behind these amazing fashion ensembles not to mention all of her amazing hosting events.
What is Fashion to you?
To me Fashion is not about keeping up with trends, it is really about wearing what makes YOU feel good and look good."
How did you get into Fashion?
It started in my early teenage years around high school. I never fit in, I was always different than the crowd .Me being different inspired my classmates to embrace their different fashion sense, it wasn’t until I was a older that i realized I had a niche that was profitable. But I was always, like my friends personal shopper. I would take them to the mall and help them pick out their clothes after school. I was always able to add my own twist on clothes, I’ve always loved expressing myself with what I wore.
When did you know you wanted to work in Fashion?
I didn’t know back then what I wanted to do in fashion but I always knew I wanted to work in fashion. So while working in corporate America I was also in a fashion program and would assist local designers with their lines. I always knew that fashion would be my path but it wasn’t until a close friend and I had a heart felt conversation and she told me I should start a blog. I agreed in the moment but didn't take her serious until the ideas lingered in my head the next week or so.
So what happened next? ...
After sitting and thinking about all I had done up until that point in my life and how it all had something to do with fashion. It was like I had an aha!! Moment .It finally all came together in that one moment. All of the fashion shows, events, styling and more. I immediately sat at the computer and began working.I started with the clothes in my closet. I began experimenting. I then decided to style my first photo shoot ,so I contacted photographers that I had worked with over the years. But unfortunately they were all overpriced so I decided to take my own photos on my phone. After that, through word of mouth advertising I was invited to my first event to present my fashion blog.
That’s an amazing journey, so how are things going for you now?
I still work in corporate America for NOW !lol. But I’m now dedicated to my blog and hosting events and being a brand ambassador. "This is no hobby, To be honest, I do this because I love it."
What would you like women to take away from your blog and fashion sense?
“Charlie On The Spot” represents change in size discrimination amongst women in society. “Style is style and fashion is fashion, so why should it only apply to women of one size? Style is not just assembling garments but it is self-expression and awareness that also acts as a major role in all women and their style identity. I’m here to break the barriers of size discrimination that is sublimely placed amongst women throughout the media, socially and publication wise.
